The Wizard of Oz coming to Rugely

Published

Seasons is an amateur dramatics society made up of people with learning difficulties and autism based in Carter Avenue, Bilbrook.

The play will be performed at the Rugeley Rose Theatre in Taylor's Lane, Rugeley.

Barbara Jones, 53, musical director for the group, said: "The rehearsals are going really well. They're practically show ready now.

"Since our launch in 2013, we've really matured. Everybody who helps out is voluntary and we've currently got 35 actors.

"The guys that come, their main focus is performance. They really want to be on the stage, they really want to be performing.

"If we can provide that environment for people, it goes a long way and it raises their confidence and self-esteem, as well as their social skills and over all health and well-being. We've got a young gentleman who calls it the Seasons Family. Everybody helps each other out."

The Wizard of Oz tells the story of Dorothy Gale, who is whisked away from her humdrum life in Kansas and taken to the magical land of Oz.

The musical was chosen by the actors themselves, who voted on what they wanted to perform.

The show will be performed on November 6 and 7.

Tickets cost £8 and can be purchased by contacting Barbara on 07510 830549.
