You'd have expected him to have been focused on the afternoon's show. After all, rave-pop superstar Example was third on the bill at this year's V Festival.

But backstage, there was only one thing on the mind of Elliot John Gleave: Lasers.

Example will hit the road early in the new year for his second stadium tour and he is determined that it will bigger and better than before.

He played to huge crowds in spring, but will be performing to even bigger audiences early next year. His tour will reach Birmingham's LG Arena on February 28 – and tickets went on sale last week.

Example said: "Yeah, we did an arena tour in April this year, so this is the second one. The first arena tour is like a milestone in your career, this time the pressure is on to put on a bigger better show – so I'm thinking about getting lasers involved.

"I've always loved lasers, not many people can say 'Yeah I've got lasers'.

"They cost an absolute fortune, they're seriously expensive, but they're going to make the show incredible."

Before then, Example has the small matter of a new single to promote, Say Nothing, which is out on September 16. His new album, The Evolution of Man, will also follow on November 18.

He's got work to do to maintain his recent form. Example's last album, Playing In The Shadows, was a number one hit, while he also enjoyed two consecutive number one singles, including Changed the Way You Kiss Me and Stay Awake.

The Evolution of Man has been produced by DJ Dirty South and the single from it, Say Nothing, is an anthemic stadium filler, laced with a hooky guitar riff and signature Example killer chorus.

This track is a destined radio smash; overflowing with Example's classic lyrical prowess. To add to the potent mix, Example has recruited the legendary guitar skills of Blur hero Graham Coxon.

Example said: "I met him at a War Child gig at Shepherd's Bush Empire. Then I saw him at The Brits, and told my manager we needed to get him on the album. So I pitched my idea, then went to his house and played him the album.

"On some songs he just picked up his guitar and started freestyling. It was amazing."

Example wrote the album in Sydney, Melbourne, Los Angeles and London at the start of 2012.

"It took about five weeks. I just got on with it and nailed it," he adds.

"It was supposed to be a holiday because I worked so hard last year. But I said to my manager 'I miss writing' so I just went straight into the studio and churned out another album.

"I've been fine-tuning since then. It feels like a consistently good album, it's all guitar lead. So, I hope this will be my grown up, epic album."

Tickets for LG Arena show in February 2013 are on sale now, priced £25. Visit www.theticketfatory.com or call 0844 338 8000 to book.
