Ken Dodd back with Wolverhampton Civic Hall show
Wednesday 4th January 2012, 11:17AM GMT.
Hot on the heels of his recent sell-out Wolverhampton Civic Hall show, veteran funny man Ken Dodd has confirmed his Christmas show at the venue for 2012.
Ken Dodd´s Merry Christmas Laughter Show will be at Wolverhampton Civic Hall on Sunday 16th December 2012.
Tickets priced £21, £18 and £15 plus booking fees are available from Midland Box Office: 0870 320 7000 or online at www.wolvescivic.co.uk
Christmas holds a special place in Kenneth Arthur Dodd’s heart – not least because it was on December 25 that the young Liverpool performer got his first paid job.
“I was 10 or 11,” he recalls. “I don’t know how I got the job. I went to St Edward’s Orphanage in Knotty Ash and I entertained the boys, and the Father Superior called me to his office and gave me half a crown.
“Then a couple of months later, I went to a school here in Knotty Ash, the headmaster asked me to do a turn at the PTA dance, and he gave me a shilling.
“Very early on I learned a very important lesson in business – how to take a cut gracefully!”
These days the hardest working octogenarian in show business is unlikely to need to take a cut, but he does like to take Christmas Day off, celebrating with family and attending services at his beloved Liverpool Cathedral, starting with Midnight Mass.

Dodd is also appearing at the Prince of Wales Theatre in Cannock on Monday, January 30, 2012 and Dudley Concert Hall on Saturday, March 17, 2012.
