Review: Jimmy Carr at Dudley Concert Hall

Jimmy Carr
Dudley Concert Hall
Review by Shaun Jepson

Jimmy Carr may well have been the headline act at Dudley Concert Hall last night, but even he had to admit that the show was well and truly stolen by a bus driver called Joseph.

During the comedian’s laugh-a-minute performance in front of a packed 1,000-strong audience, he almost bit off more than he could chew when he unwittingly invited beer-clutching Joseph onto the stage to perform with him a joke as a double act.

It was a plan that almost backfired, as the 26-year-old driver launched into a tirade in his strong Irish accent about how local people were incensed about the changing of bus numbers in the town.

Needless to say, the outburst drew more cheers and applause than any of Carr’s gags during the show.

But following Joseph’s short cameo, Carr showed exactly why he has been a hit since bursting onto the scene 11 years ago.

Not only are his scripted jokes sharp, his ability to react and produce on-the-spot one-liners makes him unpredictably funny.

And he has an ability to make the audience chuckle at jokes they know they should not really find funny.

The ‘famous’ Joseph is my little brother who now thinks he is a megastar. Just for the record he isn’t Irish and neither is he a bus driver but it’s just his impression that he puts on and the persona he puts on when attempting to woo the ladies. He’s very excited about his performance and if anyone wants an autograph just let me know!
