Best of the Web – Paul McGrath sings ‘Goin’ Back’

Friday 16th September 2011, 4:43PM BST.

When you think of the legendary former Aston Villa, Manchester United and Ireland footballer ‘ooh ahh’ Paul McGrath, his melodic tones might not be the first thing that comes to mind.

But the centre-back, who battled throughout his career against serious knee injuries and the effects of alcoholism, has surprised his fans by launching a new career in music with his first song Goin’ Back.

Whilst we’re not sure that his efforts would have the X Factor hopefuls shaking in their boots, he’s already got a bigger fanbase than most can ever hope to gain and it is all for a good cause with all proceeds going to charity.

McGrath will be releasing an album of cover tracks and all the money raised will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Association and Acquired Brain Injury Ireland.
