Staffordshire artist’s watercolour show launch
Tuesday 30th August 2011, 8:46AM BST.
An artist from Staffordshire is celebrating her election to a prestigious painters’ circle with a solo exhibition.
Deborah Walker, who has joined the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, launched a collection of paintings of Britain’s watery landscape, from rivers to the sea, on Saturday.
The exhibition is at the Ridware Art Gallery in Hamstall Ridware, near Rugeley, until September 25.
It coincides with the national Open Studios event for 2011 on September 17 and 24, between 10am-4pm, and September 18 and 25, 11am-4pm, when Deborah will welcome visitors while she works.
The celebrated artist, who is also a member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, exhibits widely and won first prize in the Royal Watercolour Society’s 21st Century Watercolour Exhibition in 2005 and again in 2008. She also teaches.
The Royal Institute, founded in the mid-19th century, is recognised as the leading national institution for watercolour painters spanning figurative, landscape, abstract and experimental work.
Deborah, who lives at the studio, said: “I was amazed and delighted when I received the news that I had been successful.”
