Countdown to Lichfield Proms concert

The finishing touches are being put to this weekend’s Lichfield Proms concert.

The 65-piece British Police Symphony Orchestra will lead the concert on Saturday (September 3, 2011) at 7.30pm, with guest conductor Matthew Taylor.

The concert in Beacon Park, will feature a Fred Astaire medley, show tunes, classical music as well as favourite proms anthems, Rule Britannia and Jerusalem.

The night will be brought to an end with fireworks and a rendition of Land of Hope and Glory.

The free event will also feature solos from soprano Joanne Mayling and tenor Mitesh Khatri.

The City of Lichfield Concert Band will warm up the crowd before the concert kicks off. Children’s entertainment, plus the sale of food and drinks, starts at 5pm.

Local celebrity Jane Dayus-Hinch, who stars in Sky TV show Wedding SOS, will compere.
