It's show time in Wolverhampton this weekend – and best of all, it's free. West Park will play host to the annual City Show on Saturday and Sunday (July 9-10, 2011) and if the weather holds out, it will be the perfect chance to roll out your picnic mat in one of the nation's most beautifully preserved Victorian parks.
But don't expect a quiet afternoon, as organiser have lined up a host of high octane activities to entertain the crowds.
Witness a gargantuan 15 foot tall Monster Truck called Big Pete crushing cars under his seven-and-a-half tons of metal and tyre while the motorbikes of James Dylan's Stunt World ascend the air and The Black Knights Royal Artillery Parachute Display Team descend at high speed into the action-packed arena.
A giant funfair will also be erected in the park while a plethora of stalls and displays will also feature.
Visiotrs will be serenaded by a brass band and refreshments will be available throughout the day.
The Main Arena Show starts at 11.15am opened by the New Park Village Cheerleaders and other attractions include a horse stuntsman who has demonstrated his horsemanship in TV shows such as Sharpe, Merlin, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, Rob Roy, Black Beauty and Braveheart.
Sheep dog trainer Bob Hogg, a member of the international sheepdog society who travels throughout the country with his team of working sheepdogs, will also be on hand to share his skills while The Royal Artillery Motorcycle Display Team will demonstrate some skills of a different kind.
The arena will be open from 11.15am until 6pm on both Saturday and Sunday and admission to the show is free. For full details, visit www.wolverhampton.gov.uk
