Progress Live tour is stunning says Take That superfan
Friday 24th June 2011, 10:45AM BST.
From giant caterpillars, butterflies and rabbits to a pop at Ryan Giggs and his super-injunction, Take That superfan Danni Byng has revealed spectacular details of the group’s Progress Live show.
Danni, of Donnington Court, Gornal, has been a fan since 1994 when she saw them at the NEC on the Everything Changes tour.
Since then the 31-year-old has bought every album and single since Pray and has every VHS from the 1990s. And she will be in the crowd when the lads play Villa Park.
Danni, who even had to take time off school when Robbie left the band, has followed all of the solo tours, and in 2006, just before the group reformed, won a radio competition to meet them at London’s Maida Vale recording studios. She said: “When we walked in, they were all singing Back For Good – it was unreal.
“I didn’t see much of Mark because he was outside smoking. Gary had had a spray tan that morning, and I remember the others taking the mickey out of him.
“Howard was nice but I nearly knocked coffee all over him, which was really embarrassing, but out of all of them, Jason was really nice.”
Danni has already seen the Progress Live tour three times – at Sunderland, Manchester and Cardiff – and she is also going to Germany for the last concert of the tour.
She said: “At the start, there is a countdown of two minutes, then Take That walk out as a four-piece on stage A and sing Rule the World, then eventually make their way to the B stage in the middle of the arena and carry on singing the songs they recorded as a four-piece until they go into the stage and come out all dressed up.
“Then there is a big caterpillar roaming around the stage that carries Mark back to the A stage.
“There are also butterflies and a rabbit wandering around on stage until Take That walk through a screen at the back of the main stage and appear on that screen with the rabbit in the middle who ends up being Robbie and they sing Sergeant Pepper. It all kicks off when Robbie comes on.
“He sings a few of his songs and whilst singing Feel he stands, lies and sits on a platform that flies along the crowd as Robbie high fives members of the audience. He also pokes fun at Ryan Giggs. He finishes off singing Angels before he joins the rest of the band as a five-piece.
“My favourite bit they sing as a five has to be The Flood. Of course I have to mention the massive robot that Take That have nicknamed Om. Absolutely amazing.
“The end of the concert is then toned down with Take That singing Eight Letters from their Progress album and they work around the front of the crowd, shaking hands and thanking us for coming.
“It was at this point in Manchester when Howard came round to us and after taking a jester’s hat off another fan, he took my sunglasses and wore them both on the main stage whilst still performing. The absolute highlight of the tour for me.”
