Roy Wood in Walk of Stars line-up
Monday 25th October 2010, 12:59PM BST.
Brummie rock legend Roy Wood will be the next person to be awarded a place on Birmingham’s Walk of Stars, it was announced today.
The Wizzard and Electric Light Orchestra legend follows in the footsteps of fellow rockers Ozzy Osbourne and Noddy Holder to be given the accolade on the city’s Broad Street.
Wood will receive his star on November 13 at the grand finale of the city’s Christmas Parade and Christmas lights switch-on in Brindleyplace.
He said: “This is really brilliant. If someone had told me when I first started in the music business that I would be recognised in this way I would have had a problem coming to terms with that.
“I was born a Brummie, and have lived in the Midlands all my life, and have written most of my music here.”
Broad Street manager Mike Olley said: “We are knocked out to welcome Roy and honour him on the Broad Street Walk of Stars.”

Nice to see there are actually some Brummies going on the Walk of Minor Celebrities.
Usually they just claim Yamyams like Noddy Holder as their own. Suppose needs must when the most famous Brummoi is Benny from Crossroads – what a rubbish city.
If Manchester, the real second city, did this they would run out of paving slabs.

Oh dear…minor celebrities?
Are you really calling Roy Wood a minor celebrity?
I dont know everything he has done, but, “The Move” “ELO” and “Wizard” Were “reasonably big” bands all featuring Roy Wood. He has arguably written one of, if not the, biggest Xmas songs ever in this country and I suspect others will tell us more?
However, I will admit there are others that I think could “step into the limelight” so to speak, who are possibly bigger local names, eg the Campbells from UB40 and Justin Hayward and John Lodge of the Moody Blues.
Historically, Birmingham and the Midlands generally has had more than its fair share of pop celebrities over the years, arguably a lot more than your “second city” or even, dare I say it Liverpool!
Dont be so quick to knock my friend…
Have a good evening all…
