Opera singer Jonathan Ansell has shed his clean-cut image for a rough-and-ready role in a popular musical that has arrived in Wolverhampton.

And the former G4 star said he had enjoyed showing his darker side with his debut leading stage role in Whistle Down The Wind.

The 28-year-old, who found fame with the opera group G4 on TV talent search X Factor, has grown his hair and a beard for his part as The Man and says he is loving the change.

He said: “I’ve never had this look before but I’m really liking the change.”

The smash hit tour arrived in Wolverhampton last night after a successful run in the West End. Jonathan said: “I’ve hardly had time to look around the city as yet, it’s just been rehearsing, rehearsing, rehearsing, but what I’ve seen I’ve really liked and the theatre is absolutely beautiful.

“I’m here until Saturday so I certainly plan on checking out a few bars and getting a feel for the place. That’s what being on tour is all about.”
