Three times Grammy nominated singer/songwriter Joan Armatrading will be the next celebrity to receive a Walk of Stars honour in Broad Street, Birmingham next month.

Armatrading will receive the star from the Deputy Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Randal Brew, during her concert on Saturday, May 1, on the stage of Symphony Hall.

The coveted award will be later embedded in Broad Street's Walk of Stars alongside those received by other celebrities including Julie Walters, Lenny Henry and Beverley Knight.

Armatrading said: "I feel very honoured to be given a star on Broad Street. The people of Birmingham are fantastic, what a better place to grow up, and what better place to be awarded a star than your home town. Thank you for thinking of me."

The star, best know for hits including Love and Affection, Drop The Pilot and Me Myself I, was born in St Kitts in the West Indies in 1950 and moved with her family to Birmingham when she was six.

She is touring to promote her latest album This Charming Life, which sees her developing a heavier, rocking sound following on from her 2007 album Into The Blues, which saw her nominated for a Grammy award.

Joan Armatrading is at Birmingham Symphony Hall on Saturday, May 1. Limited seats are available at £30.14 plus booking and transaction fees.
