The girls go wild for JLS

JLS, Birmingham LG Arena

Not since Take That has a boyband created such hysteria among teenage girls.

The youngsters and, it has to be said, some of the mums at last night’s JLS gig were out of control.

Deafening screams, painted faces and cheeky posters all greeted the foursome as they took to the stage at Birmingham’s LG Arena.

The loudest shrieks were saved for baby-faced Aston but Marvin, Oritse and JB all got their fair share of worship. JLS are officially the most successful band to graduate from the X Factor.

Their single Beat Again was the biggest selling debut of last year, the follow-up Everybody In Love also went to number one and they are now up for a handful of Brit Awards later this month. And based on last nights gig, it is easy to see why they have been so astronomically successful.

All four boys can sing, dance and are very easy on the eye. JLS served their fans a two-hour gig featuring their hit singles, favourite album tracks and a few numbers that appeared on the X Factor, including their own version of Rihanna’s Umbrella accompanied by a film of the boys shirtless in a rainstorm that caused a frenzy amongst the crowd.

The show also featured a tribute to the late King of Pop Michael Jackson, which saw the lads sing I Want You Back, Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough, Beat It and The Way You Make Me Feel. The only downside to the gig was the amount of boyband cliches thrown into the set, such as the lads donning hideous white suits and presenting roses to a few lucky girls in the crowd.

Not that any of that mattered one bit to the JLS army, who screamed, smiled and swooned themselves weary.

The band appeared on the X Factor in 2008 and were mentored by Louis Walsh, finishing second to Alexandra Burke.

They have been nominated for a string of Brit awards including best British group, best British breakthrough and best single.
