Rammstein like it hot at LG concert
Thursday 4th February 2010, 8:44AM GMT.
Rammstein
LG Arena, Birmingham NEC
Concert review by Ian Harvey
There may have been a winter chill outside but Birmingham’s LG Arena was turned into a furnace inside as German rockers Rammstein made an explosive return to the Midlands.
“Other bands play, Rammstein burn” is a motto the six-piece band more than lived up to last night, with an astonishing array of pyrotechnics deployed throughout almost the entire 100-minute show in front of 15,000 delirious fans.
See our concert photo gallery below
The music was equally intense, a barrage of industrial metal guitars, stabbing symphonic synths and Till Linderman’s vocals, part whispered, part growled, part bellowed . . . and mostly in German.
From flamethrowers to firebombs, exploding babies and towers of flame, they seem to set off more effects in one song than Kiss use in an entire show!
There was even time to set one errant “fan” ablaze and pour a vat of fire over bonkers keyboard player Christian “Flake” Lorenz, not to mention the rather naughty foam cannon during the one English language song in the set (which this review can’t mention because it breaks Parental Guidance laws).
With a set that included most of the band’s latest album, Liebe Ist Für Alle Da, as well as crowd favourites Kleine Lust, Du Hast and Engel there were plenty of opportunities for the Birmingham crowd to sing along, apparently in word perfect Deutsch.
Engel (German for Angel) saw Linderman sporting enormous, metallic angel’s wings which bellowed giant explosions of fire. Truly a gig like no other.

This is the eighth time I have seen Rammstein live (three of those shows have been in Germany) and they are like no other band. Their live shows are astonishing and worth every penny (or Euro). I have seen most of the really big rock and metal bands from Iron Maiden to U2 and nobody can put on a show like Rammstein! Last night’s gig in Birmingham was truly awesome!

The song was called Keine Lust (Not Kleine)
It was definitely one hell of a gig, let’s hope they release a dvd from this tour too!

Was very dissapointed with the apathy of the Birmingham crowd last night and so were the band who cut 2 planned songs out of the encore to finish early.
I think the advent of technology is to blame as I saw hundreds of people pay 40 quid to watch a band and then spend the whole time trying to record it on a 3 inch screen.
That is why the atmos was poor compared to the Reise ReISe tour.
If you want to watch a video then stay at home!

i was lucky enough to see rammstein the previous night in manchester where the crowd were much more apathetic,im afraid the video thing is here to stay, and i wouldnt want to take away the opportunity for people to take snaps etc,but watching the entire show on a tiny screen is really kinda missing the point, ive been to great gigs in the past before we even had mobile phones and the great ones stay in the memory and were very special occassions for everyone involved, it was a privilege to see rammstein in the birthplace of metal, they made an old rocker very happy, long may they reign [fire]!
danke sehr.

They only dropped Seaman from the last encore, not the end of the world. I thought the atmosphere was excellent. The place was sold out, everyone was singing and punching the air and you could see that the band was having a good time. Yes, lots of people taking pictures and taking movies but that is their choice. The atmosphere was just as good as the Ahoi tour of 05′. I’d say R+ outdid themselves with the gig, top performance

We lived the dream in Birmingham when we saw Rammstein live but where we sitting we have to say the crowd reponse was very lowkey. When they gave an encore they still seemed to be sedated.

Brilliant show from a great band. Possibly the reason for a shortened encore was the late start (over half an hour) by the support band, Combichrist.

Combichrist was just awful in my personal opinion. Rammstein could do with a much better opening act than this “group”…
