raouofali on June 17, 2011 Hello, It need to be the vaccume as te direction of the electrons should remain the same and with the same speed. If air is in between it will reduce some energy of the electrons as weel as direction. Hence the sample will not be pentrated well by electrons thus creating blurred image. So vaccum is a must.
