The horrific video shows a boy being set upon by a large pack – before a classmate steps in to bring it to a halt.

A Sandwell Council statement yesterday confirmed that a boy was involved in a fight in the grounds of The Phoenix Collegiate, in Clarkes Road, West Bromwich.

The video shows about 20 to 30 boys around and several punches are thrown as chaos erupts.

The mother of the boy who was attacked shared the footage online and attacked people for complaining at its content.

She claims no teachers or staff at the school did anything to prevent the fight or in the aftermath.

It has been viewed on Facebook at least 11,000 times.

The Phoenix Collegiate's headteacher Gary Hill said: "A full and thorough investigation is currently under way into the circumstances surrounding this incident.

"I would like to reassure parents and carers that the students involved in the incident are not in school at present and we will take appropriate action.

"The school is safe and calm and our other students are equally appalled at what has happened.

"Phoenix has a reputation for good behaviour and high standards and I am personally disgusted that any of our students would act in this way towards one of their peers."

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "We can confirm that we have received a complaint and have arranged to see the caller to take further details."
