Contractor chosen to build new £10 million Wolverhampton University block

A contractor has been appointed to build a £10 million block of offices and research units at the University of Wolverhampton.

The £10.1m science, technology and prototyping centre is due to open at the university's Science Park early next year.

It will provide a destination for science-based businesses that is not currently available in the Black Country.

Now Clegg Construction, based in Nottingham, has been appointed to build the new site which will provide capacity for up to 40 new businesses focused on science and technology based activities.

The 70ft tall block will have 32,000 sq ft of managed office space, together with some shared workspace and laboratory and testing space for prototypes.

It has been part-funded through a £4.8m grant from the Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership as part of the Growth Deal with the remaining £5.3m invested by the University of Wolverhampton.

Nigel Babb, commercial director at the University of Wolverhampton Science Park, said: "It's great to have a Midland construction company on board for this exciting project.

"Work is due to start on the new development in the new yearand we expect the centre to be fully operational by Summer 2017."
