From all-out navy to purple and white - a school in Bloxwich has marked turning into an academy by unveiling a new uniform for its pupils. more

Bloxwich C of E Primary School, in High Street, became All Saints National Academy on September 1.

A new purple uniform, which includes a purple and white stripped tie, was unveiled to pupils and parents during a service at All Saints Church, in Bloxwich.

Year six pupil Amber Smith, aged 10, has designed a new logo, consisting of three crosses, a dove and a sun, which will be put onto the uniforms.

Headteacher Michelle Slymn, who has been in post since the school became an academy, said: "The old uniforms are navy and the children have chosen the new purple scheme.

"It went to school council and they asked the children to vote.

"We also now have a new logo which has been designed by one of our year six pupils.

"It has crosses, a dove which signifies peace and the Holy Spirit and a sun on the right hand side."

She said the school now wanted to find a graphics company which could work with the pupils to bring the logo design into production.

Mrs Slymn said: "We became All Saints National Academy on September 1 and this was part of the rebrand.

"It's been a very positive experience being an academy.

"The parents and children have been very supportive.

"We had a very positive reaction when we unveiled the new uniform.

"The parents and children clapped."

The academy, which has nearly 300 pupils, is sponsored by the Church of England Central Education Trust.

Mrs Slymn added: "We are now looking forward to celebrating our 400th anniversary next year. It is probably one of the oldest schools in the diocese."

The academy caters for children aged between five and 11.
