The process provides parents with a reference number for any future correspondence with the council.

Mark Ballett, from the School Admissions Service, said: "It really is important to apply for a child's school place as soon as possible.

"School places are limited and allocated using strict criteria.

"To avoid the disappointment of not getting a preferred school place, I would recommend starting the process sooner rather than later."

Parents will be able to print a copy of their application and will also receive an email acknowledgement to confirm receipt of the online application.

The application process is closes on January 15 for primary and middle schools.

Parents with no access to a computer can contact the Worcestershire Hub by calling 01905 722800 for assistance.

Offers for school places are sent via email. Parents with no access to the internet will have their offer posted to them.

Following the offer process parents have the chance to go to an independent appeal.
