Fire breaks out at Walsall's Mirus Academy

A school sports hall was damaged when a severe fire broke out in a store room.

Sports equipment has been destroyed at the Mirus Academy in Walsall, while the hall itself was smoke damaged.

The blaze was started by an electrical fault in the storage area at about 11pm yesterday.

Four fire crews spent about four hours at the scene battling the flames.

The blaze did not spread to the rest of the school and PE lessons were today being held in a separate gym.

The sports hall had been refurbished with new flooring just two years ago.

The school is currently undergoing a huge revamp after securing Government funding.
