Special computer courses launched in Dudley

As more and more services go online it’s more important than ever for people to have basic computer skills. Dudley Council is now offering a number of short courses.

It is estimated that there may be as many as eight million adults in the UK who have never used the internet.

The council is offering a number of courses as part of their adult learning programme to show people the basics of using the internet and e-mail.

Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, cabinet member for housing, libraries and adult learning, said: “Not only are these people missing out on the advantages of being online but also risk being isolated as more services, including public services, are made available on the web.

"For example, it is proposed that the new Universal Credit, which will affect a great number of people in the borough, will only be accessed and managed online.

“I’m therefore delighted that we are able to offer these courses, which are free to many people, to help everyone gain the basic skills they need. And of course, we also provide free access to computers in our neighbourhood learning centres and libraries.”
