The number of pupils at a doomed Walsall secondary school is continuing to decline as pupils move to new schools before the end of the academic year, a report has revealed.

The total number of students at Sneyd Community School, in Vernon Way, Bloxwich, has plummeted from 231 in September last year to just 187 as of January this year.

A new report has also revealed which schools pupils will transfer to from September 2011 — with some heading out of the borough.

Of the current Year 8 pupils, 11 will be going to Brownhills Community Technology College, three will go to Alumwell Business and Enterprise College, two to Pool Hayes in Willenhall and two to Frank F Harrison, with one going to Aldridge School.

Nine pupils have been offered places at Wednesfield High in Wolverhampton.

Of the current Year 9 pupils still studying at Sneyd, seven of the 25 are heading to schools in Wolverhampton, with places secured at Wednesfield High and Coppice Performing Arts School.

The update report, due to be presented to a Walsall Council scrutiny panel tomorrow, says parents will be given help with uniform and transport.

Sneyd Community School is closing in August following poor results and falling pupil numbers. The UK’s first £9.5 million University Technical College is being built in its place.
