Jobs fear as £1.5m cut from Staffordshire Connexions
Saturday 24th July 2010, 10:16AM BST.
Jobs could be axed as it emerged £1.5million is to be cut from the funding of a Staffordshire youth service.
It is feared teenagers could miss out on vital support and careers advice from Connexions after the county council’s decision.
Job cuts are now almost certain and Unison says the reduction, which follows a central government budget cut, will hit the people who are most in need of support.
Connexions focuses on unemployed teenagers, young adults with special needs, teenage parents and offenders.
Staffordshire County Council today pledged to continue supporting the service.
Jane Heath, from Unison, said: “Talks have taken place about staff working reduced hours to reduce the number of jobs losses, but they all impact on staff.”
