Four years ago today, Lisa Wright popped the question, asking her boyfriend of three years, Mark Jones to marry her.

Rather than get down on one knee, Lisa again broke tradition by writing her message on a bedsheet on the front of her home.

Leap Day 2012 was on a Wednesday, but it was a football match that Sharon Harris required to put her plan into action, however, it still being a leap year she wasn't breaking with tradition too much when she proposed several days beforehand.

Walsall Football Club officials staged a spoof half-time competition to get Chris Walker onto the pitch before Sharon, his girlfriend of seven years, emerged to make her leap-year proposal.

However, in an age of gender equality it isn't just February 29 that women propose to their boyfriends,

On Valentine's Day 2014 Lindsay Beddows proposed to Gerard Fletcher with the help of a billboard by the side of the M6.
