Charlie Spooner, 20, and Mathieu James, 24, will be competing in the Tear Up at the Tower 7 event being staged at Birmingham's Tower Ballroom tomorrow.

It will feature fighters from across the UK battling each other in a series of matches.

Both Charlie and Mathieu are members of the Muay Thai Siam Camp, in Bromsgrove Road, Kidderminster.

And while both have previous experience in martial arts they only took up Thai boxing around 18 months ago.

Trainer Richard Lock, who runs the classes, said both had 'come on in leaps and bounds' since they first started.

Both competed in an event at Kidderminster Town Hall in February which at the time was the biggest event they had competed in.

Mr Lock said the club was very proud of what the two competitors had achieved so far.

And he said they were now ready to take what they had learned to the next level.

"This event in Birmingham will be a real step up for them," he said.

"They thoroughly deserve it as they have totally committed to the sport and have done very well in the matches they have competed in so far."

Mr Lock said the pair had been entered for the event after taking part in inter-club competitions and events.

During Saturday's event they will be both be taking part in separate matches.

Charlie will be taking on Simon Whitehead, a competitor from K-Star Thai Boxing, in Birmingham.

Mr Lock said both competitors were looking forward to the event.

"It really is the biggest fights either of them have ever taken part in but they have trained hard and are ready for this competition.
