Lichfield District Council is behind the Visit Lichfield guide, which was officially launched at an event attended by tourism providers at Lichfield Cathedral.

Produced by the district council's tourism team, the aim of the guide is to encourage more visitors to the district, by highlighting city and district attractions, events, tours, shops, eateries and visitor accommodation.

The event was also a chance to unveil the council's spring and summer What's On brochure, which lists events taking place across the district from March through to August 2015.

At the launch, guests were welcomed by Councillor Ian Pritchard, Lichfield District Council's Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and Development, who talked about the importance of tourism for Lichfield District.

The group then heard from the Dean of Lichfield Adrian Dorber, who made a short presentation on the progress of Lichfield Cathedral's East End Project to restore the Herkenrode stained glass windows.

Councillor David Smith, Chairman of Lichfield District Council, said: "The visitor guide showcases how much there is to see and do across the district.

"It is full of beautiful pictures and interesting information and helps us along with our tourism partners to encourage more visitors to the district each year."

"The Visit Lichfield 2015 and the What's On guides are valuable resources for local people as they are packed with exciting and interesting things to do, right on their doorstep."

Colin Bryan, chief executive of Drayton Manor Theme Park, also spoke about the 65th anniversary of the theme park and the expansion of Thomas Land, which is set to be unveiled this Easter.

Over 60,000 copies of the visitor guide have already been distributed nationwide to tourism providers.

The What's On brochures have been sent to local homes and both publications are available from Tourist Information at St Mary's in the Market Square or can be accessed online at www.visitlichfield.co.uk/download.
