A brewery has rolled out a limited edition ale to commemorate Walsall's historic trip to Wembley next month.

The Backyard Brewhouse, which is the only brewery in Walsall, will release its Super Saddlers ale to pubs in the local area for the lead up to the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final.

The beer, which is a Red Rye IPA and has an alcohol content of 4.7%, has already sold out of the 40 containers, around 3,000 pints, which were made.

Some of the pubs across Walsall and the Black Country stocking the ale include The Fountain Inn, Lower Forster St, The Tap and Tanner, Darwell Street and The Green Dragon in Wednesbury.

For fans that prefer a drink from home, a limited amount of nine pint can kegs will be available direct from the brewery for those who can not make the game.

Austen Morgan, managing director of The Backyard Brewhouse, said: "There was no brainstorming involved; the pubs in the local area couldn't get hold of the beer quick enough.

"We're the only Walsall brewery and it would be wrong not to do supporting, we're all about supporting anything local.

"It has a cracking bitterness, a big aroma, and malty character, with hints of liquorice and toffee –it really has a big flavour which is very fitting for such a big occasion.

"I just hope the pubs hold onto it until the week running up to the game rather than putting it on too early and selling it all out way before the final."

Mr Morgan's brewery is not the first to release a special beer for the occasion. They face competition from Enville Ales Limited, which has released a Walsall @ Wembley bottled bitter.
