He's struck again.

The mysterious artist, known only as the Ghost Writer, has left yet another sketch of American singer and actor Mario Lanza in the Black Country.

It is believed a quarter of a million doodles, mainly scribbled on the back of beer mats and signed 'AJW' have been created by the artist since the 1950s.

And the writer himself confirms this landmark in the latest sketch - found in the magazine display at the Lidl supermarket, in Kingswinford.

HGV driver Mathew Meredith, of Billy Buns Lane, Wombourne, was visiting the store on Monday afternoon when he noticed the sketch in an empty display stand.

Immediately realising what it was the 34-year-old picked it up - becoming the latest in a long line of people who have discovered the artworks over the decades.

Alongside the sketch of Mario Lanza, this time there are the words 'A quarter of a million done'.

Unlike some of the earlier sketches, this doodle is not on a beer mat but on the back of a packet of decaffeinated tea bags.

Mr Meredith said: "I know the Ghost Writer usually sketches on beer mats so it looks like he going in for less strong drinks in his old age.

"Like most supermarkets there is a magazine display near the door at Lidl and one of the stands was empty.

"The card had been placed in there. It had the usual picture and also had Monday's date on it as well."

Although the majority of the artist's works have been discovered around the Black Country some have reportedly discovered as far afield as Chester in the UK and even in the South of France.
