St Nick flies in for a 1950s Christmas: Send us your festive memories!

It may have been taken 60 years ago – but the long white beard and familiar hat are timeless.

This picture, showing workers from Wolverhampton's Beatties store with Santa Claus, proves that some things never change. Sent in by reader Angela Hurley, the photograph, taken in the 1950s shows her aunt, Clare Roberts, who worked for the store for 40 years, with friends at the in-store Christmas grotto

This picture was found by the 54 year old, of Compton, after her aunt died in 2011.

Clare, from Wednesfield, worked at Beatties throughout her life, starting out making hats in the haberdashery department and remaining with the company until her retirement more than four decades later.

The photograph was discovered while her bungalow was being cleaned out, and while Mrs Hurley knows her aunt is sitting on Santa's knee, she has no idea who the other ladies are.

She said: "I wish I knew who the others are. When I saw the photo I just thought that it's a shame she's not here to tell us more."

And although her own visit would have happened long after this picture was taken, she still has memories of visiting Santa at Beatties.

"I remember going to see Santa when I was young," Mrs Hurley said. "You would sit on his lap and tell him what you wanted for Christmas. I think we got presents, although I don't remember what they were.

"I suppose that just goes to show that seeing Santa was more important than getting the gift."

The image is a great slice of Wolverhampton's Christmas past, but what other pictorial treasures are hidden away in attics and sideboards around the city and beyond?

We're looking for your old pictures of grottos and festive events from across the Black Country and Staffordshire.

From sitting on Santa's knee to standing in the crowd when the lights are being switched on, we would like to see photos and hear your happy festive memories.
