The Brazilian who became a tattooist after his stint on the TV show sang his new Christmas single Switched on like a Christmas Tree at the events in Dudley and Blackheath over the weekend.

He first appeared in Dudley town centre for the light turn-on at 5pm, then Blackheath for the switch-on at 6pm on Saturday.

He was joined in Dudley by dance act Granny Turismo, who entertained the crowds with their routines featuring shopping trolley and handbags.

The event, which started at noon for the light turn-on at 5pm, also had fair rides, vintage steam engines, face painting and children's mascots.

There was also brass band music from the Coseley Cornets.

Dudley Mayor Councillor Margaret Aston, said: "The turn-out today was fantastic.

"The performers gave it their all and I'd like to thank them for the contribution they made to the day.

"It was a real privilege to turn on the lights for the people of Dudley and I wish everyone a happy start to the festive season."

The town Christmas tree in Stone Street Square is sponsored by Castle Cars in Dudley.

Dudley Council is organising a number of Christmas events to help draw in shoppers and boost footfall for the towns.

In Blackheath, Wagner joined Sandwell Mayor, Councillor Derek Rowley, to turn on the lights.

There was music from the Strummers ukulele group, Rowley Hall Children's Choir and St Michael's Brass Band.

A Tree of Light was also turned on. The tree gave people the chance to sponsor lights in memory of loved ones.

It raised £500 for charity.

Organiser Shirley Ching said: "The whole event was excellent. We had a great turn-out and from what I could see, everyone who came enjoyed themselves."

Lights were switched on in Halesowen on November 15 and will be switched on in Stourbridge on Saturday and Brierley Hill on December 6.
