In London £2 million might get you a three bed flat in Chelsea or a two bedroom mews house in Bloomsbury, but just a few miles from the Black Country it will buy you a country estate.

Among the handful of homes in the area that might be affected by Labour's proposed 'mansion tax', Brook House at Claverley is one of the most spectacular.

Built shortly before the Second World War, this distinctive country house stands at the end of a long sweeping drive in magnificent gardens and grounds that extend to around 48 acres.

A look inside the Brook House in Claverley.

Brook House comes with eight bedrooms, two bathrooms in addition to the en-suites, garaging, carports and even an hanger and pad for your helicopter.

Needless to say, the bespoke kitchen is fitted with an AGA cooker - and there is a catering kitchen too, also equipped with an AGA.

The house was originally built in 1937 for Paul Gibbons, a member of the lockmaking family that can trace its business roots in Wolverhampton back to 1670.

With impressive electronic gates, a cobbled courtyard, leaded windows and huge arched oak doors the house was constructed to exacting standards and decorated in the Arts & Crafts style. It was clearly built to impress and any owner, standing on the huge terrace, is still monarch of all they survey.

And, of the prospective buyer still has around £500,000 left over, there is a three-bedroomed cottage and another 40 acres available 'by separate negotiations' through the estate agents, Peter James Property of Tettenhall.
