A 6ft7ins girl from Manchester was in the process of having her shortened at Oswestry Orthopaedic Hospital. Anne Rowston, 19, hoped to be six inches shorter come the new year after having sections of bone removed from her legs in a series of operations.

Pictured in Victorian dress are shopkeepers from Aldridge, who donned their costumes as part of Dickensian Christmas week.
