Best friends Sandeep?Kumar and Ellison?Tipton chose a more unfashionable mode of transport when they arrived on the back of mobility scooters.

As they pulled up outside the Village Hotel in Walsall for the Willenhall E-Act Academy Year 11 prom, the pair were greeted by roars of laughter and parents took videos of the moment.

Sixteen-year-old Ellison said: "We wanted to do something different, not just turn up in a limousine so we chose mobility scooters.

"I borrowed mine from my nan Sandra and Sandeep hired one from a shop.

"My nan had to show me how to drive it. It wasn't hard to pick it up. When we pulled up in the car park everyone was laughing. They thought it was hilarious and people were taking video."

The party was held on Tuesday (1) and senior assistant principal Leighton Thomas said everyone had enjoyed themselves.

He said: "We normally have youngsters turning up on a horse and carriage, limousines or sports cars. We've never had a mobility scooter before. Sandeep?and Ellison?are top lads.

"All the parents who were stood on the car park thought it was hilarious when the boys pulled up on their scooters.

"I was on car park duty and could just hear roars of laughter.

"We had about 150 kids at the prom. It was a great night. It was one of the nicest proms we've ever had."

Meanwhile a group of eight lads from St Peters Collegiate School in Wolverhampton chose a far trendier method of transport to get to their prom.

They turned up in a limo, looker dapper in a smart suits and they captured the moment inside the car so they can look back on it in years to come.
