The sleek pink and silver tram rolled into Snow Hill station in Birmingham. And public transport bosses were on hand to gauge the reaction from passengers.

Similar events will be held in Wolverhampton and Wednesbury before the trams are brought into service in the summer.

Councillor Roger Horton, who is Centro's lead member for rail and Metro, said: "We always want to hear the views of the travelling public on how well we are doing and where we need to improve, which is why we hold these events. But this event will also be the first chance people will have to see the new trams which are an exciting new chapter for the Midland Metro system."

The tram is one of a £40m fleet of 20 to take almost 100,000 passengers a week between Birmingham and Wolverhampton.
