X Factor Joe joins fundraiser for Tom

X Factor star Joe Whelan joined hundreds of people at a packed-out social club in support of a trust set up to honour murdered Wolves fan Tom Kirwan.

Mr Kirwan, from Oxley, was stabbed to death outside the Uberra club in Wolverhampton in July 2012.

No-one has been charged with his murder and his killers still remain at large.

His family have been raising funds in their fight for justice and so far this year they have raised £4,000.

At the weekend, Mr Kirwan's fianceé Jade Elwell, family and loved-ones, held a fundraiser at the ECC Social Club in Showell Road in Bushbury, Wolverhampton.

Joe Whelan performed a 30-minute set to around 250 people in attendance at the event.

And Miss Elwell, 23, says the response from the public still comes as a shock to her. She said: "I can't thank people enough for coming and supporting Tom's memorial trust. It was great for Joe to come along too. He sang for half an hour which was good.

"The club was packed and it goes to show just a popular man Tom was but also how much people support us in our fight to bring his killers to justice.

"It's a battle that costs money but we won't stop until it is done. This year we have held a number of events and managed to raise £3,940. I'm not sure how much Saturday's event has raised but we estimate around £2,500. We're all so grateful."

Miss Elwell added: "We want to keep the memory of Tom alive so that people know how much he was loved but also to show his killers we won't give up."
