Wolverhampton's Central Youth Theatre backs Cash For Your Community

One of the 100 groups who benefited from last year's Cash For Your Community project have encouraged people to take part this year.

Community groups from across the region collected a share of £30,000 last year after Express & Star readers collected tokens to support their cause.

A maximum of only 150 organisations can take part again this year and today marks the last chance for groups to register.

Last year, Wolverhampton's Central Youth Theatre took part, with the 5,127 tokens collected for them earning an extra £783.31 to put towards their long term goal of purchasing a new home on Lichfield Street.

The group has worked in the city for over 30 years, providing theatrical training and practical work experience both on and off the stage to hundreds of youngsters who have gone on to carve out a career for themselves in the world of theatre.

It hosts various fundraising events throughout the year, including the Hilarity Charity Gala, held at the Grand Theatre in June.

Director Jane Ward MBE said: "Cash For Your Community allowed people to make a communal effort to help us realise our goal of getting a new home to call our own in Wolverhampton City Centre. The project is great because it brings the community together, raises awareness of groups who are doing good work and at the end of the day, those groups get some much-needed money."

To take part in Cash For Your Community, groups can register online today, with every group accepted set to receive a slice of £33,500 based upon the proportion of the total number of tokens they collect.

All they have to do is collect a minimum of 500 tokens from the paper to qualify.

The top three groups collecting the most tokens will also receive an additional cash bonus.

Tokens will be printed in the Express & Star from September 24 up until October 31.

The campaign is only open to not-for-profit community groups, charities or social enterprise organisations whose main activities are based in the circulation area of the Express & Star.
