Plans for the industrial units, at Shackleton Way, have been given the go-ahead and will measure a mammoth 147,088 sq ft (13,665 sq m) combined.

Birmingham-based Trebor Developments has described the warehouse project as speculative, meaning they would be sold to another firm to move in and use as its business once they were built.

As the firms to take on the units have not been confirmed at this stage it is not known how many jobs could be coming to the site however parking for nearly 300 people has been earmarked.

Redhill Business Park is already home to some of the town's major employers such as Screwfix, while global rail giant Alstom has been steadily relocating to the site.

Stafford Borough Councillor Stephen Leighton, who represents the area, said: "I am certainly for it.

"I want to see new jobs brought to the area. It (Redhill Business Park) is super important, we obviously have a lot of housebuilding in Stafford at the moment and there is no point having houses if there are no jobs.

"This designated bit of land has been set aside for the more technical kind of jobs as well as the likes of big employers like Screwfix."

He added: "This is just another example of the borough doing really well having a really good foundation for what happens industrially.

"We all want jobs but of course we have to balance this with the impact on residents. This is why the planning process is so important so concerns and worries can be voiced.

"I haven't heard any concerns myself so planning issues aside bringing industry to the area can only be a good thing."

The council's planning committee rubber-stamped the plans yesterday. Now attention has turned to what companies may be arriving to the site.

Councillor Leighton added: "A lot of the time companies come in and build them and then look for firms to come in as is the case here."
