The DotCom centre will be used to deliver goods and groceries to shoppers' homes across the Black Country from the Burnt Tree Island supermarket.

Plans have been submitted to Dudley Council for three extensions to the superstore on the Dudley/Sandwell border including one underneath the ground floor using some of the car park.

It means there will be fewer parking spaces for customers with the number of spots due to be cut from 975 to 725.

Customer orders will be packed and loaded into vans in the morning, between the hours of 4am and 1pm. Home deliveries will take place between 6.30am and 11pm.

Also customers will be able to pick up their orders from a 'click and collect' point.

Up to 13 full and part-time jobs will be created by the re-modelling of the site. This will be followed by a further 61 positions expected within the next four years.

Construction jobs will also be created during the development work.

As part of the plans there will be changes made to the access road off the Birmingham New Road with the introduction of a designated right hand turn lane for home shopping vehicles to prevent disruption for customers visiting the site.

Agent Kayleigh Dixon said in the planning application submitted on behalf of Tesco: "The Dot Com warehouse is a home internet shopping distribution centre delivering goods and groceries to local residents."

"Overall, the proposals aim to deliver significant improvements to local residents by providing an alternative way of shopping to suit the needs of a growing population who require this form of service," she added.

The £27million Tesco Extra supermarket opened in October 2011 offering a Dominos Pizza outlet, beauty salon and a dedicated technology zone sellingTVs and iPods to replace a older store on the site.

Tesco is the latest supermarket to announce new jobs in the Black Country.

Budget chain Lidl is due to start work on a major distribution centre in Wednesbury creating up to 500 jobs next year.

The new centre will be built on land near to Junction 9 of the M6.

Aldi will also be recruiting people for around 80 positions at two new branches, including one to the replace the King Arthur pub on the corner of Priory Road and the Birmingham New Road.

The second will be on the former site of the well-known Bronx works on Dudley Road in Lye.
