Crazy ice cream flavours like toothpaste and Jaffa Cake have helped send sales soaring at a Staffordshire dairy.

Bosses at Red Lion Farm in Haughton said one of the best summers for years had also helped sales which are up ten-fold on last year.

Graham Hollinshead, who runs the farm with his parents and sister, said: "Sales have gone through the roof this year, particularly of the Jaffa Cake ice cream.

"We can't actually stock it because it's flying off the shelves before we get the chance to build up stock. It was launched for the Staffordshire Show in June and people loved it."

He said they had sold 7,000 litres of the frozen treat.

The success of the firm has meant a non-stop run of production. The family started this season's production in January and have not had a break since.

The ice cream business, which uses milk from the farm's own herd of Jersey cows, was launched 24 years ago.
