The new 7,000 sq ft Sports Direct store will be unveiled at Wyrley Brook Retail Park in Bridgtown on Saturday.

It comes as a further boost for Cannock after it emerged in June that a new designer outlet village is being built next to Mill Green Nature Reserve.

Cannock Chase Council leader George Adamson said: "This is great news for Cannock and it is going to create more jobs in the area.

"It's positive that it's another national chain for the town as well."

Sports Direct was founded in 1982. It is the UK's largest sporting retailer with more than 400 stores nationwide.

Sports Direct spokeswoman Laura Hudson added: "We are delighted to be opening our new store in Cannock."

The nearest Sports Direct store to Cannock is at Bentley Bridge in Wednesfield, Wolverhampton. There are other branches in Walsall, Lichfield and Stafford.

Other stores on Wyrley Brook Retail Park include Fashion Factory and B&Q.

Sports Direct was founded in 1982 by Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley.
