£745m deal for Carillion group

A consortium headed by Wolverhampton-based construction and services group Carillion has won a £745 million deal to build a major new road system around Aberdeen.

The Connect Roads consortium, which also includes Balfour Beatty and Galliford Try, has been appointed as the preferred bidder to finance, design, build and run the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route/ Balmedie to Tipperty Project involving more than 60 miles of new and improved roadways.

It will build 28.6 miles of dual carriageway and upgrade others, as well as constructing 25 miles of new side roads, nearly 19 miles of access tracks and 72 new bridges, including over the rivers Dee and Don.

Carillion chief executive, Richard Howson said today: "We are delighted that we and our consortium partners have been selected as the preferred bidder for this project, which is the largest NPD project of its kind in Scotland to date.
