The store will open at the former Matalan Discount Club premises in Birmingham Road. A total of 21 jobs will be created there.

The Deeside-based firm has a number of stores in the Black Country, including one in Wolverhampton's Wulfrun Centre. The grand opening comes on the same day as Poundworld opens its new store, with the creation of 30 jobs.

It will be the second Poundworld store in the city, with another open in the Mander Centre. Aldi will also open there on April 10, with the creation of 35 jobs.

Regeneration chief Councillor Peter Bilson said: "We have focused on regenerating that area of the city, so to have nationally recognised stores move into that spot is great news."

The former Matalan premises were last occupied by furnishings retailer Homeland but has stood empty since that closed in 2011.
