The company, which took over the landmark former City Link depot on the Willenhall and Darlaston border in June, delivered more than 20 million parcels nationally between December 1 and 24.

Bosses say it is a significant rise from last year when the firm dealt with 12.8 million parcels during adverse weather conditions.

The boost is attributed to the rise in internet shopping with 12 per cent of Christmas trade done on-line.

Chief executive Jonathan Smith said: “These figures demonstrate the massive surge in online shopping.”

He said in the last week before Christmas, 999 out of every 1,000 deliveries were successfully completed.
