A kitchens firm in Wolverhampton is shedding up to 30 jobs, workers said today.

Chamois Eco-Kitchens, based in Showell Road, Bushbury, is understood to have launched a month-long consultation with staff.

The company axed 25 workers in 2008 after losing a £1 million contract with Wolverhampton Homes, which runs 23,500 council properties in Wolverhampton. It had been supplying kitchens as part of the £400m Decent Homes improvement project.

One employee, who asked not to be named, said today: “The company has been here for about 28 years but it is scaling back massively.

“They want to get down to 20 people so we’ve been told we’re out of a job.”

Chamois Eco-Kitchens was founded in 1981 by entrepreneurs Andy and Hilary Jones-Dutt.

It now promotes its green credentials by being the first company to make cabinets from recycled materials.

Mr Jones-Dutt today declined to comment on redundancies, saying it was an “internal matter”.
