Job cut threat at Wolverhampton University

Up to 47 jobs could go at the University of Wolverhampton, it was claimed today.

It is believed the posts are under threat as part of a re-structure of the Learning and Information Service which deals with library services.

University chiefs today confirmed the department was under review but refused to say how many jobs could be affected.

Director of Marketing and Communications, Ashar Ehsan, said: “We can confirm the department at the university is under review. The university has entered formal consultation with staff and unions, so cannot comment further.”

The department combines traditional library services with hi-tech facilities that offer students different materials including electronic journals and databases.

Over the past year the university has been trying to save £8 million after cuts in funding.

A voluntary redundancy scheme had 156 applications accepted.

The university has 2,740 members of staff.
