Jobs joy as chain revamps

McDonald’s is pumping £5.5 million into its West Midlands restaurants, creating more than 90 jobs, it was revealed today.

Outlets across Birmingham, the Black Country and Staffordshire are being transformed with new exterior and interior designs, free WiFi for customers and extended opening hours.

Staff will benefit too, with new “crew rooms.”

Restaurants being remodelled this year include Rushall in Walsall; Birmingham New Road, Bilston; Castlegate Way, Dudley; Park Road, Halesowen; Stafford Road, Wolverhampton; Wall Island, Lichfield; Upper Gornal, Dudley; Weavers Wharf, Kidderminster; and Northfield, Bristol Road, Kitts Green, Stetchford and Yardley Wood, all Birmingham.

Richard Forte, chief operating officer at McDonald’s, said: “We are pleased to provide job opportunities in the West Midlands, particularly when youth unemployment is at an all-time high.”

they are actually pretty fair with their jobs to be honest, pay a good wage and have decent promotion opportunities.

Pay a good wage? Are you serious? They pay as close to minimum wage as possible, no wonder the rich-poor divide is ever increasing when we have morons out there that call the McDonalds slave wage a good wage.

    Exactly, Ronald.

It is a mark of how utterly useless the Black Country is when its local newspaper greets 90 new McJobs as good news.

Condemning young talent to a menial, mindless and monotonous cretin job in a faceless global corporation is a crime. Where are the jobs in high growth, high demand, highly skilled innovative industry?

They’re in Cambridge, Brighton and London – even Leeds and Edinburgh. They’re nowhere near the Black Country.

Glad I’m not the only one who can see the corporate McDonalds chain for what it really is, just another means to keep the people of the black country at the bottom of the pile when it comes to making a living, whilst at the same time increasing the obesity rate in the area, looks like they killing two birds with one stone.

One of the few areas that does well in a recession (like pound shops). They may be low-end jobs, but people have to make a start somewhere and I seem to recall that McDonald’s have a good record regarding staff training and even progression to board level?

Something like 7/10 of their boardroom staff have worked as serving staff in their restaurants.

Mcdonalds investment in the midlands will create more jobs for people who want jobs.

You are wrong, McDonalds will create more jobs for those people who wish to become a slave, what chance does anyone really have on the peanuts McDonalds pay to it’s slaves?

I agree a bit with Stan.Like reducing accidents puts bodybashers out of work (I mean people mending cars and not hospital staff should there be confusion).
There was once a sort of Monopoly game in “Mad” magazine where whatever the guy in a mess does travelling, looking for jobs etc he always ends up at McDos.
At least they are clean and handy.
In France we have another reason for the moment : the rival chain,Quick, which has somehow survived alongside has gone more or less hallal. That means you get turkey served up instead of real pork ham,and bad luck if you don’t want it.There has been a furious row about freedom of choice and demonstrations over the affair. However lots of other restaurants are doing the same, but little or no comments from McDo.If I am Christian in a Christian country I should at least be given the choice.McDo allows this at present. If Muslims want turkey immitation ham so be it but alongside I want my pork ham !

What are you talking about? You are given a choice, no-one forces you to eat hallal, if you don’t want to eat it, the answer is very simple,so simple my 7 year old child worked it out, just buy your burgers from somewhere else that do not sell hallal. Problem solved buddy! You sound like you have been raised on a fast food diet – this is what is does to people folks so make sure you eat as healthy as you can or there’s good chance you will end up like our BRUCIE above.

2 – Conner Davies! There’s always one person who has to moan and whinge about things like this! I have had the oppertunity to work for Mcdonalds when i was in college and can only say good things about the company. The pay was fair, but there was always the opportunity to move up the ladder! The hours were flexible and there was always training for various things such as customer service techniques etc etc. So before you start condeming people and the company, think before you open your mouth and spare a thought for those without jobs who would probably jump at the chance of getting what can only be described as a secure job in todays hard times.

    rant over.

A secure job because of all the advertising, mostly aimed towards young kids with happy meals including a free toy etc

Just my opinion – to me this kind of advertising is the same as tobacco companies advertising to young children, or alcopops, etc. They may create a few jobs but the health of people living locally will decrease, more heart disease etc.

I’m amazed people are embracing this type of corporate chain with open arms, they do not sell real food, it’s some kind of weird manufactured junk, but if that’s what people like putting into their bodies, your choice!

Yeah great news for young people under the age of 18 who are to be paid under £4 an hour which I was for a year. I hated it and the managers treat people like dirt. Its hard to get time off and if you work on a saturday night, they put you staright back on the next day at 2pm so yeah great news!!!

Being still a young person myself, I remember how I was ridiculed by my mates as you are seen as stupid if you work there.

And as for the fatter comment, I totally agree, as your on rubbish wages, you cant afford to bring in your own food, which means when your offered free food on your break, you eat that. In a year I managed to put on 2 stone. Its a viscious cycle and I would advise anyone who is considering to work there, to forget about it.

They could have also put £2 million into local social causes. Like Coesley Baths ! That could have encouraged more customers too !

For a start calling these burger bars restaurants should be banned as it is completely inaccurate. Secondly, could some of this money be spent on preventing the huge amount of waste packaging it’s taste-challenged clientèle feel obliged to dump everywhere?

    • Lloyd Webber

The dumped waste packaging is a way for the less evolved amongst our species to mark their territory. As for the taste challenged clientele, you need to try new flame grilled whopper – made from battery caged hens, steroid pumped cattle and decomposed pigs.

I assume the requirements for the job will be the same as always with MuckDonalds?

A bad attitude to customer service
    No sense of urgency
The inability to use computerised tills
    Poor understanding of hygiene
And no concept of basic mathematics
