Bakers are making changes

A Black Country bakery firm today closed its shop in Stourbridge, along with two in Birmingham.

The Firkin shop in High Street had a notice on the door advising customers it will shut.

A manager said three staff were being made redundant.

The head office of the firm which trades as Newbridge Bakery Ltd, is in Black Lake, West Bromwich.

Boss Sarah Bolderston, who runs the firm with husband Ian, said the closure of the Stourbridge shop was for commercial reasons,  but the company intended to open a new branch in the town.

She also confirmed a shop in Kingstanding closed yesterday and one in Harborne will close tomorrow.

Mrs Bolderston said: “These shops were no longer appropriate for the needs of our growing business.”

She added a deal for a new shop in Harborne had been secured and would open soon and there were plans to open five new stores at undisclosed locations.

Newbridge Bakery Ltd previously traded as Firkins Foods which went into administration last year.
