Pubs up for grabs as Villa Park hosts property auction

From Grade II listed buildings, to empty pubs, community centres and properties worth more than £1 million – an auction in the West Midlands is set to get buyers splashing the cash.

The latest SDL Bigwood auction takes place on September 8 at Aston Villa.

Among the properties going under the hammer are a former community centre in Duke Street, Wolverhampton, the former Mirage youth centre, Howland Close in Pendeford, as well as The Malt Shovel pub in Wolverhampton, The Old Waggon & Horses in Kidderminster and The Shrewsbury Arms in Stafford.

There are 123 lots in total including six for Birmingham city council, two for Wolverhampton council, one for Birmingham and Solihull NHS and one for the Canal & River Trust.

The community centre in Duke Street, Wolverhampton

Jonathan Hackett, executive partner and head of auctions, said: "With plenty of interest ahead of the hammer coming down we expect another excellent result."

Some of the lots include community facilities which could be redeveloped. The property, based on Stratford Road, Sparkhill, was previously an NHS day care centre. Now it is to go under the hammer, with a guide price £600,000-£625,000. Another lot includes a one-time community centre in Duke Street, Wolverhampton, with a guide price of £94,000-£98,000 and the former Mirage youth centre, Howland Close, Pendeford, Wolverhampton, which will go for anything from £265,000-£275,000.

The Waggon and Horses pub in Kidderminster

Grade II Listed properties set to be auctioned include a three-storey cottage in a stunning location and close to Bewdley town centre, worth guide price £95,000-£115,000. A property on Churchfield Street, Dudley which includes adjoining land may go for anything from £78,000-£83,000 and a former works site on Moseley Road, Balsall Heath, may be sold for a staggering £1.5 million.

Residential investment Sterling Court, on Flaxley Road, Yardley, may also reach impressive heights when it is sold. The freehold un-split block of 16 apartments, with income over £110,000 per annum, has a guide in excess of £1,450,000.

The Mirage youth centre in Howland Close, Pendeford

Birmingham City Council lots include a former depot and yard located on Chapel Street, Handsworth, with accommodation extending to 8,696 sq. ft. with a guide price £150,000-£175,000, and a property on Ralph Road, Saltley, with a bargin guide price £25,000. The end-terrace leasehold property is so in need of complete refurbishment throughout that only external viewings are permitted.

Other interesting lots are a block of four flats in Cradley Heath expected to fetch in excess of £240,000, and a series of 12 two-bedroom apartments on Lakes Road, Erdington, which produce an income of over £70,000 per annum, are to reach in excess of £800,000.

A house on Gaia Lane, Lichfield, is expected to fetch £124,000-£128,000.

Finally, the auctioneers are seeking in excess of £250,000 for Bell End, Rowley Regis, a detached property which has been converted into two flats, plus two semi-detached one-bedroom bungalows to the rear.
