Midlands lens firm enters administration

Administrators have been called in to a lens manufacturer in Lye which has faced tough trading conditions.

Oakhill Optical Laboratory Ltd, which employs 20 people in Pedmore Road, has struggled during the past 12 months.

Administrators from FRP Advisory have been brought in to try to secure a buyer. They said the firm would continue to operate as normal while a buyer is sought and that no jobs would be axed while the company continues to trade.

Oakhill has been based in Lye for more than 30 years and supplies ophthalmic lenses to around 120 opticians and optical professionals across the UK.

FRP Advisory said the firm had a profitable history but has recently faced tougher trading conditions. Gerald Smith, partner and joint administrator, said: "The joint administrators are continuing to trade the business from its premises in Lye to ensure orders are met whilst actively marketing the business for sale. We encourage any interested parties to make early contact."
