Up to 30 jobs will be created under plans to revamp three Black Country branches of McDonald's - including a bid to serve customers at one site around the clock. more

Proposals have been lodged for work at restaurants in Dudley Road, Kingswinford; Brickhouse Lane South, Tipton and Park Road, Halesowen.

Around £300,000 will be invested in the three sites, the fast food giant said today.

The company wants to open its Kingswinford restaurant 24 hours a day in a move it says will create between 10 and 15 new positions.

Bosses have applied to Dudley Council to change its premises licence and extend its opening hours. The application will be discussed by councillors at a meeting on May 28.

Plans to re-configure the drive thrus at the Halesowen and Tipton branches have been lodged.

It would see the creation of two side by side lanes for the ordering points, which bosses say would reduce waiting times for customers and help to cut noise and congestion.

Around 10 positions are expected to be created at Tipton with a further five at Halesowen.

Bosses have said they are looking at whether they can also upgrade the drive-thru at the Oldbury branch but no definite decision has been made.

A McDonald's spokesman said: "I can confirm that we have applied for the Kingswinford restaurant to open 24/7, which would create 10 to 15 jobs.

"We want to serve our customers at times that suit them, and more and more people are living outside of the nine-to-five routine.

"Offering extended opening hours would allow us to provide a more convenient choice for our customers, but our priority remains to be a good and responsible neighbour."

He added: "The proposed side by side drive thru at Park Road, Halesowen represents a significant investment, through which we would expect to create five additional jobs and improve the overall customer experience, by reducing waiting times, traffic, noise and congestion at peak times."

Speaking about the plans for the drive thru branch in Tipton, he said: "When a drive thru reaches a certain capacity, at peak times the side by side is a good way of reducing waiting times, and therefore queues and congestion."

It January McDonald's was granted permission to open its branch in Bromsgrove Road, Halesowen from 6am on a trial basis.

There had been concerns raised by residents about a potential increase in noise from the site.

Fifteen new jobs were created.
